Aliases

Functions and usage
Often you’re required to indicate your real email address by signing up with online resources like websites, forums and others. In some cases you might not want to use your main address ( username@umail.net ), as for example if you are not planning to stay in touch with this service for a long time and therefore don’t want to reveal your address to this site. Besides, UMail.NET’s anti-spam system doesn’t let you use your main address because you don't know the address from which you’ll be receiving messages, so you’re unable to add it to your address book.
For such cases, UMail.NET allows you to create disposable email addresses in addition to your main address ( username@umail.net ). A disposable email address has the following format: alias@username.umail.net , where "alias" is any prefix. Any messages sent to a disposable address will directly be sent to your Inbox, like messages actually sent to your main address.
The difference is that you can set up different filtering rules for different disposable addresses. Your whitelist-based filtering will not work for a disposable address you just created; further usage of this address will make the system identify the addresses from which the messages are coming and then create a conditional "white list".
How to create a disposable address
To create a disposable address follow these steps:
  1. Go to the "Temporary Addresses" page and click the "New Address" button .
  2. Enter a main part of a new addresses’ prefix into the dialog box and click OK. Prefix can be any word or Roman letters. The second part of a prefix will be generated automatically.
A new address has the following format: prefixNNN@username.umail.net , where prefix is an user-typed word, NNN are some digits generated randomly and username@umail.net - your main address.
Settings of a disposable address
To edit the settings of a disposable address first choose it from the list on the left side of the "Temporary Addresses" page. You should then see an edit board on the right side with the following options:
  • Allow incoming messages This option allows you to turn message receiving to this address on or off.
  • Save into folder
This allows you to choose a folder where the incoming messages will be going. New messages go to the "Inbox" folder by default.
  • Mark with a tag
This allows you to choose a tag with which to mark all the messages that are received at this address.
  • Description
This is a text field for the user to enter an address description; i.e. reason of creation, addresses of online resources where the address was used and so on.
  • Use to send messages
This option allows you to turn message sending from this address on or off. This means that, if the option is active, you can choose this address in the "From" field when sending a message.
    N.B:
If both "Allow incoming messages" and "Use to send messages" options are deactivated, the disposable address is inactive and you can’t receive or send messages with this address.
  • Send from the name
Includes a name which is used in the "From" field of outgoing messages. If this field is left empty, the value entered for the main address is used.
  • Signature
This is a field for entering your signature, which will be added to all the outgoing messages sent from this address. If this field is empty, the signature used for the main address will be used (see Settings->Mail->Signatures).
